I know what you are saying, buying any used car is a crap shoot. The other thing to keep in mind is that most people on this or other LR forums are here because they experienced some or other problem, you don't really see the good ones here. Opinions are skewed by bad experiences. Doing research before buying any vehicle is important so that you know what you are getting into, most posts here were to make you aware of the problems you may experience and what to look out for when buying a vehicle. I can understand your reluctance after hearing these horror stories, but a good Disco is going to give you good service. How do the LR3s compare? I guess the price blows your budget.

i totally understand thats why i havent given up. I would rather buy from some kind of dealership that can stand behind something that a private seller. I dont want to hear what i want to hear so they can get me into a car. I want to know history with service records. maybe i will continue to look & thanks for the VIN thing. After going back to ROVERCLASSICS i saw that it fell in with the VIN range that had pump issues etc. I wish i Could get into a good lower miles DiscoII but sadly 2003-4 is my only option regarding a loan & i dont want to say my amount because that will ensure me someone telling me that there is no way i can get a LR Disco II for that price & NOT have problems. As stated depending on the price i can get one at (with vin outa the "range" of bad pumps) i can get an aftermarket warrenty through my bank they will cover. Basically my approval for the loan runs out oct 3rd so i was hoping to find something prior to that... im not saying it has to be a rover, but i like them, it could be others as i stated above F250, Frontier, Tacoma, maybe even jeep but still finding a good one is the delema regardless

Bundu I appreciate your assistance especially with the VIN thing. The one at ROVERCLASSIC i actually gave an offer on & they accepted. the good news is it was to test the waters so they never got my name so im not getting stalked now haha. Its information like that that can give me a little more hope into possibly owning a "reliable"-er Land Rover. I am still very much interested with the idea of getting one and information like that helps push me in the right direction.

If there is any more information on what to look for i appreciate it!

Low miles
Single Owners
Records
VIN outside of 3A771801-3A808362

Are there other things to look for?

Also if anyone has CARFAX without having to pay could you look some cars up for me? I dont know any dealers that i can think of that would help me out in this regard.

Like i said I still WANT one but im not DEFIANTLY getting one im just looking and if something stands out as a fantastic vehicle that i feel might be worth sinking a FEW pennies in then i will scoop it up. Sucks that $ & time are factors but gotta love bein 23...

THANKS AGAIN!

i skimmed that but i will read through it properly. I was talking about it with m mom today and she too is worried about me taking out a 4 year loan on something that "is comminly problem plagued" Im not saying i dont want one because i really do but she for the second time brought up me buying her 2008 RHD wrangler X. I do like it but she too has had issues such as the skid plate next to the tranny pan getting caked with mud & rotting it out... She also bought an extended 100k BUMPER TO BUMPER warrenty for it but so far she has blown out a shock, rotted a tranny pan neither of them were covered for unknown reasons... this is the only think keeping me from it. Well that plus the fact that if i pay her 200$ a month for it thats fine im just worried she will bitch that "you have enough money to put wheels on the jeep but cant pay me more than 200$?" because she is like that sometimes. She said that she would not care as long as i didnt pay late & always payed aka no bullsh*t excuses. Which i sorta believe. 3.7L V6 isnt a jeep motor its a minivan motor too... but regardless i will read through your post & also develop a budget for both the jeep & a $8500 rover. I have to find out what its worth (the jeep) because obviously she would just trade it in but if its work like 17k im not going to expect her to only take 200$ month (my loan budget)

I paid $9k for my 2002 5 years ago in NYC with 50k miles on it. Don't get ripped. Are you willing to either pay thousands of dollars in repairs or learning DIY?

soo you paying 9k for your 02 5 years ago is good? bad? was it a flop? that doesnt really give me much information besides a 2002 for 9k... i only took out a loan for 8500 so i offered 1 person 8k & he said yes. i never left info or a name so i figured i could go less if i were "more serious" haha. but idk what your getting at in that regard to price.

as for repairs. obviously noone wants to pay thousands on repairs, if its seldom thats okay but if its constant then no. As for the DIY, im a huge fan of DIY, ive done all my work on my volvo from exhausts intakes etc etc & all the crap on my jeep as well im handy with a wrench & know what im doing just not on rovers as of yet...

So basically i need a 2003 in the details that i stated above or a 2004 in great condish with decent miles prefer sub 90k or 85k. is that even doable?

If anyone has an unlimited carfax or and details or anything that might help me narrow it down a bit more it would be greatly appreciated including rough ideas of what i could get it for... remember my loan is for 8500 only and obviously lower is better...

If you think you are getting a good deal go for it. Just remember we gave fair warning.
