A DI is a first generation Discovery 1993-1999.5
A DII (2) is a second generation Discovery 1999.5-2004
A LR3 is a third generation Discovery 2005-current.

What these folks say about finding the one that is right for you is true. When I decided I needed (read: wanted) another vehicle and that it HAD to be a LR, I, too, searched around for a while. I searched the east coast from private sellers to dealerships. I test drove. I even looked at used Range Rovers. When I decided on the one I wanted after spotting it on the net and talking to the place that had it, I was set. I rented a car and made a road trip to Philly with two friends. The place I bought it from primarily deals with vehicles like Rovers, Audis, Bimmers, etc. right off of leases. They had that white '02 S washed, waxed, and spit-shined sitting in front of the showroom waiting on me. That was also where I left it as I drove off in my Banatti Grey SE. The grey one was sitting by the entrance and spoke to me as I pulled in. The moral of the story: if this is the way you want to go, listen to these folks and take your time. Be picky. And, wait for THE ONE.

PS
I had to put 89 octane in mine, once, as the station did not have premium, and i was fumes away from Flintstoning. I was treated to a nice melody of predetonation marble-bouncing every time I hit a hill 'til I found the high test nectar. PREMIUM fuel is a must.

Land Rovers are like women, you must find the one that is right for you. She will give you trouble and you will want to leave her on the side of the road from time to time.
But you will work through it and you both will have a long, meaningful and happy life.

I thought LRs were more like expensive prostitutes....

And for the record...it won't be a man leavin me at the side of the road, it'll be him watching the red glow of my Disco tail lights drive off into the sunset as I leave HIS sorry butt in the dust...

Unfortunatly, I just checked my VIN # and it falls into the oil pump issues... I am the guy who has a thread on here about massive coolant loss... I am in the process of tearing down the motor and replacing the head gaskets and all of the other gaskets that come with the kit. Are there any visual signs that I can look for on the bottom side of my 03 disco as to whether or not this is a issue for me... it does not leak any oil between oil changes and I do them at 3000 miles and not one mile over. the truck has just shy of 63k on it now.

A DI is a DI is a DI. They're all just about the same, aside from very minor differences. I'd look in the 80-120k range. They'll be cheaper than say an 04 DII, but if (and this is the key) if it's been maintained properly it will run great for another 200k at least. They do come with those options, my 96 SE7 has those. Just make sure when you test drive it that every little thing works. Let us know about any lights on the dash, any weird noises or anything from the car your concerned about. Don't let them frighten you away as it may be a quick little "persuasion via heavy object" fix
