I recently started using an app to track mileage instead of pen and paper. I was hoping the app would show a little better MPG than I was calculating. Turns out I was on the money. A whopping 8.2mpg!!

Lift, 33's, rack, lights on the rack, You were never intending to get mpg with that rig. Keep it stock height, Michelin street treads, no rack. I get 17 consistent going 75 mph. Ain't the Disco's fault, if you want mpg with all that gear you need a diesel, but then Diesel if $4/gal
Yeah, as mentioned...is this going to be your primary or just a secondary driver? One will be difficult, while the other tolerable...especially considering your lack of mechanical skills.
But, truth be told...driving any 18+ year old vehicle as a daily will be challenging.
With that being said...if you do decide to follow this endeavors winding road. Do an extremely long test drive, maybe a couple, getting vehicle to operating temps, especially watching for coolant issues, check previous maintenance records, don't trust anyone that says..."it's a rover, so it's suppose to leak fluids"...because they shouldn't if properly maintained, check to be sure all warning lights appear when you turn on the key, CHECK FOR RUSTED FRAME!!! and if you are unfamiliar with looking at rovers...take someone with you that is.

Both our 03 and 04 average 14.5...with just slightly larger/aggressive tires.
So the economy part of this is really funny. I was a little bored at work today so I did some mild calculations. If I drive the S4 (which takes premium) and even taking into account the significantly higher cost of fuel for it, driving a Disco would still cost over $100 more a month in fuel for my commute. I personally don’t believe in running premium in a 50+ year old design engine, so that’s assuming tractor gas, which is what I ran in my last one. The funny part is the Jeep splits the difference as it gets better economy than a Disco.

Yeah, its hilarious when someone with a fully kitted 4x4 starts talking about fuel economy. Like somebody with a Big Block Chevelle or an off-shore power boat talking about fuel economy. Some of us don't care. I recently switched to a permanent WFH job, I bet I drive less that 20 miles a week at this point. I look at fuel prices and think in my head "ouch", but doesn't affect my life much at this point aside from the obvious inflation we all see.
I put on less than 10,000km a year on the D2 and P38 combined so the cost of 91 octane isn’t really a big deal to me. Others that put on a lot more miles will find the price of fuel to be a bigger deal.
Where are you located?
I think the take away on this you should not be afraid to get your hands dirty. The truck will not always break down in the most convenient place. Parts are cheap, they are easy to work on, you will probably have some initial growing pains, but get through the big stuff and it should be smooth sailing if you dont ignore maintanence.
