Default Looking for someone to pin a slipped liner

2003 Disco II. The noise is just embarrassing. Does anyone know a place or someone that can do it ?? Truck has only 85,000 miles, so I think it has a lot of life left once the liner is pinned. I am on the East Coast. Thank you.

Yep, RoverMasterMechanic. He will weld the sleeves, I believe he is the one who came up with the welding idea. Haven't seen him around in a while, but you might still be able to contact him.

I thought it was RoverMasterTech.

Chris (RoverMasterTech) closed up his shop... I havent been able to get in contact with him for almost a year. A shame because he was good! Had him do head gaskets on 3 of my trucks.
What temperature do the liners slip? Sometimes a lower temperature thermostat can solve the slip.

Ah! You're correct, master tech. That is sad! I was wondering why he wasn't around. He always seemed to have some good insight.

The first tap is at around 150F. It's not too bad, it's like direct injection tap noise. The rest of the orchestra comes on at around 200F, so a 180 degree thermostat should help things a little. Also, it's not too bad when ambient temperature is cool outside. So, in may become my morning coffee and bagel running car in the summer time.

I test drove a 2000 4.6 Range Rover P38 yesterday mainly to see what the engine should sound like. It's very nice. I really liked it and the car had really responsive brakes, which tells me my Disco II may need a new brake master cylinder too.

Thanks everyone for your help!! I really like my new to me truck. Super fun and nice pickup except for the noise.

That's too bad about RoverMasterTech. He could be a bit of a blowhard, but definitely made some significant contributions to the community.

Good luck finding a mechanic who will pin or weld your sleeves. I hope you can find someone. You might find the threads here with pictures and print them out to show to mechanics you talk to.

Okay, I love working on this truck. The parts are cheap and plentiful and so far it's easy to work on. I've been getting a check engine light since I bought it (P1412 / P1215), so swapped out the SAI solenoid (took this Noob only 15 mins even without instructions) and found a big crack (see pic). Hopefully this will clear it up for good.

Next, took it on a test drive afterwards and decided to crank the heat up in the summer, my slipped liner ping noise went down 40% in decibels. Now, I'm thinking water wetter and a new low temp thermostat can bring the noise down a bit further. Right now the noise is livable with the heat blasted. I know, LOL, but great truck. Love it.
