Some of this applies to the D2

1997 Land Rover replace catalytic converter and head gaskets

This applies directly to the D2

So, how many miles on your engine? If you are over 100,000 miles and the front cover is off, I would suggest you replace the timing chain set as well as the oil pumps gear set.

and the water pump, hoses, t-stat and belt, possibly replace the throttle body heater if that hasnt been done in a while , much easier when you can flip the manifold over.

Has 140k on it. T stat, hoses, reservoir, and radiator replaced this past September.
Have a new belt, timing chain and gear as well as oil pump gear and sump gasket.
Have the timing gear/chain kit from AB and the head gasket kit should be here today.
Headed out to get oil, antifreeze, and p/s fluid here in a few. Think that covered most of the questions and I think I've got most of the recommendations in work. Thanks for the help.

Well this may be a stupid question but my markings for left and right are gone from the machine shop re surfacing and cleaning. Does it matter which one goes back on where. Couldn't see anything ref that in Rave and heads are essentially the same so.....
Thx
