Default Losing coolant

Hi all,

I scoured through some of the threads but couldn't quite find what I think I'm looking for so I figured I'd post my problem. A few weeks (or a little longer) ago my 01 disco lost coolant and started to overheat. I've refilled it a few times and it seems to keep losing it. There's no constant drip, it seems to purge it mostly all at once. Around this time (not before) I used dexcool, which I thought could be a mistake and it probably was. Because there was o constant leak, I replaced the thermostat, but that didn't seem to fix it as I found it purged itself again. The puddle usually seems to be on the driver's side near to the front. I don't think its a leak because its not constant. Its also very inconsistent, as I drove it for a week or two before it purged anything, but it has also happened after a couple days. I'm not too sure, but it seems to lose it when its really cold (-30 Celsius or colder). Anyways any advice would be very helpful.

Check the throttle body preheater - two little lines run to it that feed coolant through a passage to preheat the air intake... Very common place for leaks. A replacement kit is available with a new plate and new gasket.

I would agree to check the throttle body heater. I just bypassed mine a week ago and seems to be running fine.

Before you go to work in the morning, and before you take a shower, go under the Discovery and tighten all the hose clamps a bit.
That will probably fix it.

Now that you are all dirty you can take a shower and go to work.

Do this when the Rover has been sitting all night - right dab in the morning.
