Default Loud clank when putting it into drive

Just curious if thats a normal thing for the shaft to do that? I have a newer woods up front and a rebuilt rear drive shaft. Thanks for any suggestions

Some gear backlash is normal and noticeable, even with U-Joints that are tight. And a DII will have gear lash in each of the three diffs.

That said, I wouldn't call the noise when putting my truck into gear a "loud clank".

I see that as of now you have 490 posts, so I presume your truck is not new to you. Has it gotten noisier lately?

Well actually my sig picis my old disco but i dont remember that one making a sound. The one I have now Ive had it for a year and a half. I do park on a slight hill and the only time I hear it is when I get in and put it in reverse. Guessing its normal

Mine does that too if I park on a hill and let the truck rest on the parking poll. If I put the handbrake on first and then put it in park it doesn't do it. I think it's normal my parents Cars make the same noise if they're parked on a hill. Again only when shifting into reverse from park.

Ditto.. I also park on a hill, the sequence of parking brake and shifting into park make a difference in whether it clunks or not. I have trained myself to apply the P brake before shifting to park to avoid the clunk. Do the reverse when starting out... shift first remove parking brake second.
