Removing the two connectors from the SLABS causes the SLS light to illuminate on the dash (yellow), but it does solve the battery drain problem. We have had enough time now to confirm the there is not anymore battery drain and the truck has started after sitting for 3 days. It was failing to start after sitting for as little as overnight and it would never start after sitting for a full 24 hours. So, if you can live with the SLS illuminated, this is a viable solution.
