Default Using 4WD 1st time in years

Going down my checklist and my wife says it's been "years since she put the truck in 4wd".

I've heard it's good to use the 4wd occasionaly to keep things lubed. Before I just went out and did it, any tips? Is it safe to just put it in 4L and slow roll on the street a bit if the trucks been running 2wd only for many years?

The truck is full time 4wd, so no 2wd for it to be stuck in. That said, the high-low linkage could be seized. It's fine to use low range on the asphalt, but you could just shift it back and forth. No need to drive it in low range unless you just want to. There will be two clunks. One into neutral, the second into low. Same going back to high; one clunk to neutral, second to low. Do this with the transmission in neutral and the truck not moving.

Thanks. I just figured it runs in 2WD unless shifted into 4WD. Just want to make sure all the diffs stay lubed and not dry rusting inside from not being used.

Sure is! Just be sure not to use it over about 25 mph.

Your disco has live axles. If tires are spinning, so are the diffs. The only thing affected by not shifting that nifty lever in the console is the linkage connecting it to the transfer case. Make sure the shifter moves freely, never force it.
