Default loud leaking power steering pump DII, 77k

My power steering pump is making an awful lot of noise and is leaking.Friday night it was fine. Saturday morning after about 10 minutes, noise and fluid leaking. The fluid level never got below the minimum line. So, my question is will air in the system make a lot of noise? Would the pump go bad that quick? Do I start with line replacement then go from there?

The pump and steering box "should" self bleed after not so long, there is a bleed screw on top off the steering box if you need to get any trapped air out.

Where is it leaking from ? its quite common for the pump supply pipe to fail and leak.

I took a look yesterday. But, really couldn't tell where the leak was coming from. I need to clean it up to see.

Mine was leaking from the gasket between the two halves, and was a howling monkey. Replacement took a couple of hours but not a bad job.

Yes air in the system can cause the noise.

How do you get the air out?

You can let it work its way out or you can loosen the bleed screw ontop of the steering box.

Before you do anything, power scrub the pump, all 3 hoses and the gear box to find your leak.

Thats the first thing I did yesterday after I changed the fluid. It is leaking like crazy now. Coming from the hose that goes to the bottom of the power steering pump. At least it appears to be that hose. I haven't really climbed underneath to be sure. I don't know if there is a seal there or what.

Is there anything down there that could leak, or is this the hose. Is this just a matter of a bad seal between the hose and the pump, or is this a faulty hose?(lol, i mean typically....). Its funny because it makes noise still after starting it and even after I drive it around, but I stop and turn it off for five minutes, start it up and its gone.

I bet its the gasket between the front and back halfs of the pump.Does it seem to leak more when you first shut it off ? Is the resivoir tank full of little air bubbles? You can replace the print o seal "gasket" With gray "stiff" silicone if you cant find a new one.
