I have tried many different oil wieght's and found that the 5w-40 T6 was to thin of any oil. Most people on here are using 15W-40 T5 rotella and having great results. I personal liked the 15w-40 but am currently using 10w-40 high mile stuff for the winter. I'm going to switch back to the 15w-40 during the hot Texas summers though. You might want to try switching to the rotella 15W-40. For the price it's great ($13.00/gal @ walmart). The 10w-40 is a little more money. You are using a great filter already so no need to change that.

I just got my 97 Disco in September 2012. Wasn't ticking when I got it. I changed the oil when I got it. Used 5w-40 T6. My engine began ticking in late October 2012 and has gotten louder and louder. I been using additives to help, but reading this now, I am beginning to think it's the oil.
Gonna switch to 15w-40 rotella next oil change and see what happens.

I use the T6 all year, no noises with mine.
I don't see how the 5w-40 is thinner than the 15w-40 when hot, they're both a "40" weight oil.
If you live down south you can use the 15w-40 all year.
As I have proven many times the Mobil 1 oil filter is a waste of money. It does not protect any better, it does not filter better, it only lasts longer and costs more.
Plenty of videos on YouTube of these things cut open.
The Mobil 1 oil filter is a long life filter, meaning it can last upto 15,000 miles.
Use whatever you want, I'm just saying its a wage of money for normal oil change intervals.

I think I am done with the T6. It is making mine leak like crazy. I posted the differences between the M1 I use in the colder months and the T6 I was using in the warmer. Can remember exact, but this is what i saw:
Going from M1 0W40 to T6:
Lost .5 MPG
Leaked more
Was a touch louder
Ran a few degrees cooler
I went back and forth a few times on my 00. On the 04 I don't know what they were running prior, all I know is I didn't have leaks (some on truck, but not on driveway). Put inT6 and I have spots onthe driveway. Great. I run the M1 0W40 in my S4 and I'm just going to stick with that I think.
