I had M1 10w-30 in for the winter, and when I recently changed to Rotella 15w-40 I could certainly hear the difference.

Viscosities at 100° C

15.7 Chevron Delo 15w40

15.7 Rotella 15w40

15.2 M1 10w-40

14.6 Mobil Delvac 1 5w-40

14.2 T6 5w-40

14.2 Chevron Delo 5w40

14.1 Amsoil AMO 10w40

13.4 M1 0w40

12.0 M1 10w30

These are from VOA on BITOG. So, it turns out all 40 weight oils don't have the same viscosity. I recently learned this and was pretty surprised.

Very nice, thank you.
I'm still sticking with the T6 though, you guys can use whatever you want.

I'll be trying rotella 15w-40 next oil change. I guess we'll see what happens. Thank you for the list

I run mobil 1 delvac 15w-40 now. Same price at rotella but you get the nice cap that allows for a cleaner oil change. I found it to be a pretty great oil.

Your tick probably isn't oil related. If you really want to try and quiet it go for 20w-50. Is it a huge nuisance?

What the #s mean first # the weight of the oil, the 2# the weight it will lube like . But it is a m/weight oil , it stays thin flows fast, less cushion . Straight 40/w would pour slow & heavy , lots of cushion but low flow in cold ,

Delvac and Chevron Delo are supposedly as good as (or better than) Rotella, but harder to find.

Walmart sells 5w40 full synth Delo for $20/gallon. It looks to have the best additive package of any diesel oil I've seen, and it's even cheaper than Rotella.

I just looked at their website and it looks like Walmart sells the Delvac 5w40 for $27/gallon (at walmart it's rebadged as Mobil Turbo Diesel Truck oil). It is slightly heavier than the other 5w synth diesel oils, but the additives don't seem quite as robust as the Delo. And the price is same as T6, which we know is great oil.

Not a huge nuisance, but annoying nonetheless... It comes and goes. It disappeared for almost a year once. Only does it after it's warm and goes away (or gets drowned out) once it hits approx 1200rpm.

There's literally a hundred threads here and the other forum about the tick so I'll stop hijacking this tread about it.

Cheers.
