Default Low Oil Preassure

My mom was going to take the Disco to the store because i parked her in, sadly when she turned it on she said the oil light came on as usual then turned off, after the engine idled down, the light came on again for a while then turned off. After that she turned off the car.

I had a problem earlier in the summer with the oil light coming on, but I figured it was because the stealer ship said it was fine to leave 5w30 in all year. I switched to 10w40 and no problems up until now.

Its 4 vin numbers inside the vin range of oil pump failures, is it failing?

Sadly, it sounds like it's failing. What do you mean by the light coming on for a 'while'? 5-10 seconds...maybe ok. 5-10 minutes or miles, then engine is likely screwed.

You need to get oil pressure readings from a REPUTABLE shop, not one of these shady hole in the wall joints, because they will bend you over and tell you to smile.

Get to HF and get this oil pressure test kit:
http://www.harborfreight.com/engine-...kit-98949.html
Do not get the cheaper kit, it does not have the right M12 1.5 adapter.
Test it yourself, remove the stock oil pressure sensor and screw in the test kit.
You need readings for cold at idle and at 2000rpm, then the same for hot.

She turned it off before it idled down, so im guess under 1 min, about 30 secs?

I turned it on later in the day and let it idle down then switched it off, it was normal. (car was on 1 min)

Next Question is where and how much will it be to get a new pump.

To get it to a dealer 40 miles away I assume it should be flat bedded? theres $300.
How much do you think it would be for them to change it, Ive had $4000 of warranty work done there, plus other various things, and know them quite well of course!

I know theres a euro car shop in Green bay, but I have never used them. MY dad knows a Land Rover specialist in Milwaukee but thats 5 hours away.

Also if I remember correctly it was basically if you change you oil pump, you change it at the same millage interval (106k, id change 100k). Although I probably wont have the truck for another 100k! Oh and where is the stock oil pressure censor tube thing?

If you only need to replace the oil pump gears: http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/8979.cfm
If you need to replace the front cover: http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/LJR000220.cfm
Test the oil pressure before you throw parts at it and waste money.
Find the oil filter, the oil pressure sensor is about 6" directly above it, you will see the wire attached to it. You can see it on the second part above, the oil filter attaches to the bottom left on that photo, the oil pressure sensor is about 1/3 up on the left.

The closer you drive it to the shop the cheaper the tow bill will be.

Before you do anything talk to the shop, see what they say.
Test your oil pressure, you can do it or you can have it done by any shop.

The credit card is unfortunately picking up the bill, so whats another $50 for a oil pressure test. Getting it done Monday morning (8-8-10) Wish me Luck, or keep me in prayers!

I will enjoy the few hours of looking at all the european cars in the Bergstrom, super dealer complex thing though!

Is it repairable? i was reading on another fourm if the oil pump dosent explode, but just slows, it will continue to break anyways and not make a difference. I was thinking it would be good for another 100k? im confused?
