Lowering my '03 Disco
you will really need a full adjustable suspension, i had to go to a P-38 to be able to get in and out. (no chair)
I was considering transferring one of the discos of the complete air system using cannibalized p-38 components

All great suggestions.
I have come up with another very simple idea. The seating position frankly sucks for me and I'm going to be modifying the lower cushion on the driver's seat regardless to replace it with a better material than the OE foam. I'm going to reconfigure the rails so the seat accommodates my husband better (he is 6'4" and for some reason the design of the rails is far too close, I will be doing the flipping mod) but then also reconfigure the upholstery and hopefully with spacers and different bolts I will be able to lower the bight of the seat (the bight is where the seat bottom and seat back meet) while simultaneously raising the front edge of the seat. I also want to modify the shape of the seat bottom to best contour to my seating position to stabilize my trunk and reduce spinal pressure.
In doing all of this, I should be able to reduce the height of the seat simply by reduction of materials under the leather. This could potentially give me the 1-2" I need for easier transfer. Without giving a lot of personal medical information, I am unable to lift my feet for stairs or anything without lots of assistance, but I can use upper body strength to slide into the seat. My drop foot and weakness doesn't allow me the use of my legs and feet like most people but luckily I can still drive with my legs by using my thigh/knee angle, I just don't bend at the ankle like I used to.
Having said all that, the suspension on my Disco is tired and must be replaced regardless. Air is better than anything just for ride quality for my spine. Anything to absorb shock and bumps before it can transfer to my skeletal structure is a huge benefit. I have a lot of bone-on-bone joints which have not yet been repaired so I feel everything. Of course, performance also matters a great deal to me so I want also what will make my rig more capable.
It also has to look good once I choose some beefier tires. I know lowering a Land Rover is sacrilege to many but ultimately I'm building this car to my needs so I can be independent and leave the house without a caretaker.

Hi
I haven't really thought this through but have you considered tractor type seats which some are infinitely variable positioning and also air cushioned chassis frame to reduce spinal impact?

Maybe not this exact model but possibly something more adaptable with a head restraint.

I wonder if this would work. i may never do it, but I think it would be awesome to have my disco lower for around town/highway and raise it for off road and inclement weather. i will be interested to follow this project.
Just bumping this thread since seeing it I have been interested in an adjustable suspension. It seems like you could use airbags for the rear that are made for DII pretty easily, for the front if you modified it a bit I wonder if you could use LR3 Air Struts.
I haven't seen anything that would plug and play. Just wondering if you have had any luck or what you have decided to do for the project.

Contact Chassis Tech Suspensions(search google and they also have a store in Ebay) and they can put together a custom complete system for the Disco, you will need airbags, compressor, lines, selenoids, holding tank, remote controller and all the necessary components for your application. Be advise that it will involve some fabrication for the mounting towers but very doable and with you determination I don't believe it will be a big challenge, by the way, more power to you and screw the purist ***** that "it's their way and nothing else".........do it and drive it proud..
