Depends on the type of rack, if its a standard Land Rover one then you can simply move it back and forth as you wish along the gutters, if its an SD rack, it will fit, but as Mike says it will be to short and "imo" they just look wrong.

My first rack would fit either as the gutter width is the same, but you just move it to where you want it.

i'm not sure if its an SD rack. it was purchased from the Land Rover dealer in 1999. Not sure if they offered the SD then? so baiscally it will be short 3" in the front and 3" in the back because the part of the roof where it raises has to be the same on the rack when i mount it... i'm stuck its a good deal the guy is local that is selling it. $300 with the ladder and gutter mounting brackets. Said there is very little rust but i was planning on repainting it first. But don't want it to look rediculous. I love the roverracks and the SD racks the way they are confomed to the body vs the safari racks where the front of the rack is so high off the front part of the roof...

Yes, they had the SD racks in '99. If it's a full length rack from a dealer, then odds are that's what it is.
$300 is a good price for an SD rack and ladder. Get it and to hell with how it looks. If you hate it, just hang on to it until you run in to someone with a DII rack on a D1 (it will be overhanging) and swap with them.

It will only be short at the back, the front has to go in the same place because of the design

So you can "see" what it will be like, heres a piccy for you
