Default LR techs- Is this repaired correctly?

03 Disco w/ 65K under LR extended warranty

Shifting transfer case nearly impossible
Took to dealer
Opened up console and said shifting mechnism was gummed up/ jammed
Not only did they ungum it they replaced the pivots with bolts
Said they put in bolts to make service easier next time (whatever the hell that means???)
Did not find one TSB that said to replace pivots with bolts
If the pivots were bad and not alloowing shifter to move why wouldnt the entire assembly be replaced?
Feel like the dealer is half assing my job, again
1 st call said it wasnt covered because of corrosion
2nd call said it wasnt covered becuase of road debris
My point if if the mechanism was inop why would it not be replaced?

Any inside knowledge would be appreciated

Sounds like bs to me. There is a corrosion warranty on these vehicles. I don't remember off hand how long/many miles it lasts, but I know that there is one. It might only cover body though. However, if it is within the standard factory warranty, then it should be covered. Road debris is a part of driving, so that is bs too. Contact the Land Rover North America customer service line and inquire about this issue. If the dealer has been jerking you around, they will help take care of that. I believe the number is 1-800-577-8577 or 1-888-577-8577.

Extended Warrany's are tricky. Some are real hard for the dealer to get their money back.

If you don't move your shifter regularly, they corrode due to road debris, so the dealer didn't really lie to you. They replaced the rivets with bolt so the pivot points could be freed up if it happens again. If you are a person that doesn't use the shifter but once every few years, they figure it will happen again, so they made it easier to service next time. I don't think they did a BS repair.

Still call LRNA, but if you don't use it, you loose it. If you have been using the shifter regularly, try to explain that to them, but from where I am sitting, the dealer wasn't too far off line.

The warranty for rust, corrision are not used by the dealer unless you have a yearly inspection , paid for by you, to inspect and tyrack rust, if not done, per the warranty, you are out of luck.
Your dealer did what was needed.

Use your shifter once a month to prevent this from happening again.

DiscoMike-Thanks for the clarification on the corrosion warranty, I never knew the full deal with that. All others-The bolt idea is a good one and I do agree with it. I don't however recall him saying that he never used his shifter, so it could be that he uses it semi-regularly and it gradually became a problem. Just realized that he did say it is an extended warranty, so it makes more sense to do what they did.
