Default Lumbar support

After the great dissapointment with my newly acquired seat heater switches, I began to wonder about the lack of Lumbar support on my seats.

How many of you with 1999-2004 DIIs with leather seats DON'T HAVE the adjustable lumbar? Seems like I should have that.

I believe all the leather seats came with the lumbar supports.

My 03 S w/ Duragrain has lumbar in the seats.

However, I understand that they switched from cloth to Duragrain seats in the base models in 03. That could've included the addition of lumbar as well.

I have heard and read that if the heated switch is left on constantly that will burn out the heating element in the seat. Unlike Mercedes when it gets to a certain temp, it kicks down then when the ignition is turned off the heating elements turn off and remain off until you turn the switch on. Land Rover is not like that, much like if you have the optional front heated windshield, it will not turn off, and stay off after you turn the key off and back on. In my '01 the drivers heated seat does not work any more, previous owner must have left it on but the passenger seat does.I believe Mike is correct all leather seats have the lumbar support manual or electric. The lumbar seat adjustment switches on these don't wear out like the older Range Rover Classicsthat the switch was horizontal rather than vertical in the Disco. Less likely to get dirty now. To check to see if you have electric Lumbar there should be a multi plug coming down from the left side back (facing forward)(opposite the recline motor) that will connect into a harness pack at thebottomof the seatback and follow the other motor harness wiring.

Thanks. Good info. If the heated seat burnt, it would have had to happen on Tuesday as I installed the switches on Monday. Sometimes it heats, sometimes it doesn't.

I'll check the lumbar connections. Odd that both would be malfunctioning unless they were disconnected.

Thanks Jayhawk. Kansas Grad? If so, me too. My liver still hurts from excessive trips to The Wheel.

While your down there, check the heated seat connections as well.

Turn everything off and give it a swab out with a q-tip soaked in alcohol. Let it dry before plugging it back up!

Here's the plugs that you're looking for (the one unplugged is for the heating elements):
