M & S lights flashing

I just had the flashing M & S lights and D (limp mode)... upon inspection found my Interstate battery was the original to the truck last hole punched being 2002!
Found an online deal at Firestone for the exact same battery for 79.99 + fees and taxes. no brainer.
new battery put the lights back to normal and as a bonus a few other minor issues went away. I was having what seemed like the tranny shifting later than it should intermittently... hasn't happened since the new battery, and I have no explanation but the truck seems to run smoother and stronger too.

Dave03S:
from the RAVE shop manual about the tranny ECU
M&S Light = On
Sounds like your new battery was just what the doctor ordered. The electronic transmission detects the wimpy battery before the radio goes dead....

P1562 * Battery supply below 9V while engine running
Maintains current gear in low range, limp home mode in range. Shift pressure to
maximum, harsh gear shifts/engagement.

sounds like the xyz is bad. u live in florida. my guess is you use the air con often. the drain drips directly on the xyz. so unless they rerouted the drain out very well could have failed again. it can be rebuilt. it's a mechanical switch. it fills with water and contacts become soiled.

Driver's side of transmission. Where a design issue allows AC condensate drain to keep in wet. Muck builds up inside. Can be removed, rivits drilled out, cleaned up, etc. It has a series of metal switch contacts that tell the tranny ECU what selection you have commanded.
Thank you for the info... Sounds like AKA, "Neutral Safety Switch".

It is most likely NOT the XYZ switch.
A blinking M and S light alone will indicate low voltage / battery under proper voltage. The condition may be intermittent.
Replace or have your alternator and battery tested.
IF it is the XYZ switch failing as a result of drainage from the AC drains, the gear display will also show a capital D with a slash through it, and it will also be flashing in conjunction with the M and S lights.
Don't replace the XYZ switch if you don't have to. This is just from my personal experiences with the same flashing lights.

@Carlos Man … you need to get the trouble codes read with a diagnostic tester preferably a dedicated Land Rover tester. If not, it's a guessing game to find the source of the problem.
Post your fault codes on your other post.
