Default MAF Q's

Just replaced my mass air flow meter, new air filter and now the maf codes are back. 1884, 0102. Truck sounds like it's sufficating. Any ideas? Not sure what to do. This is the third maf in a year. Help!

Guys

I have a K&N on my Disco I but I make sure I don't oil it. Is it worth keeping on there or do you recommend the stock one?

Sorry, it's a 99 discovery II with a 120000 miles. I have been putting Wix paper filter since I bought. I have had the truck for 5 years and just in last year started to have this problem. These have been aftermarket maf. Does a bosch make that big of a difference?

You just answered your own question.
Assuming the fuse for the power to the MAF is good, your problem is the aftermarket MAF's, even the generic Bosch MAF will rarely work on our D2's unless it has the exact same part number.
Take your's back and order a good one.
By the way, the factory paper filter so sooooo many time better the the after market ones for only a couple dollars more.

you need a bosch land rover specific MAF and you need a paper filter. not an oiled K&N.

A D1 MAF is more robust than a D2. It is more capable of handling the K&N, but you really don't get any more performace value out of it. You also mentioned not oiling it? Never a good idea. That is how it traps dirt. Over-oiling is how they hurt MAFs. The oil comes off and burns the sensor wire.

I would still suggest running a paper filter.
