Major 60k Mile Service - Revised

When I get each truck I do the 60 k service and that checklist of items.

17. Replace gators on Pbrake and trans case levers
18. Fix the headliner if needed.
19. Install steering wheel cover
20. Replace the 2 rubber boots on the ends of the windshield cowl
21. Get a cheap little set of tools that come in those plastic boxes for each vehicle.
Most of those are great, but not really necessities at 60k. Some of them are already included in some form such as the coolant flush and ultragauge recommendation; I've never had one and like the Bluetooth dongle and otherwise I like running physical gauges.

Also, I'll die before I put a steering wheel cover on any vehicle. They're the bane of my existence.

Zuke, oil pressure feed is a good idea, but also not necessary as a maintenence item. That's more of a new vehicle modification, and a good one, but not really fitting for a maintenence thread.

Number 20, rubber boots on end of windshield cowl?
I'm not sure what they are. Maybe mine is missing them.

Almost every one I have bought has needed these. When you open the hood too far it pops them off. They take the water out of the tray to an open area behind the fender. There is an emergency drain hole under it but if you plug it full of leaves it will direct water into your cab and kill your ECU.

Guess how I know that?

Atlantic British has them for $14 apiece (I think)

I actually really need to fix mine before it kills my ECU.


Edit: I'm just talking this on instead of adding a new comment so the thread doesn't get bumped. I changed the transmission fluid recommendation based on the factory manual's recommendation. I am running ATF +4 in mine right now without issue, but in the future I'll be going back to dexron.

Alex, by mixing the T6 and T4 are you making 10w-40? Does it work like that? I’d prefer that to using Castro’s 10w-40 Dino and zddp which is what I am doing now.

Only thing I would add is a recommendation to use a Continental Elite Serpentine Belt. Really quiet.

Yeah, that's correct. Since oje:s a dino 15w40 and the other is a synthetic 5w40, it's a synthetic blend 10w40. Castrol is fine oil, but I'm pretty anti-additive with oil. If I can get what I need without an additive then I will go that route 10 times out of 10.

I've never had a cheapo serp make any noise unless I got antifreeze on it. That makes 'em squeal like crazy. Those are nice looking belts though.

Thanks Alex! These are the old Goodyear Gator Belts. They are quieter, at least with the hood open. I'm a little odd about this type of thing.
