Default Manual Transmission Syncros

Hi All, I just joined the forum because I am looking to turn my 1997 disco into an offroading beast. But, before I can even think about that, I need to get my transmission fixed. I have a 5 speed manual and the second gear syncro is broken. Do any of the guys know of a good place to get a slightly used transmission? The cost to replace it with a refurb one is crazy expensive!

www.roverlandparts.com has one for $1200.

And then you take your old one to the scrap yard and sell it for a few hundred dollars.

$1,200 for a used one! You are kidding me... boy am I in the wrong business! You can get a quality and I mean QUALITY refurb one over here for a LOT less than that...

1997 Disco with a 5 speed manual - should be the R380 box in that - Ashcroft Transmissions do them at £445 (exchange) with a £350 surcharge - so £795 if you don't return your old box to them. That's $1,300 US if you don't return the old box to them, $725 plus change if you do... and I thought we got ripped for parts over here!

Ashcroft are pretty much the benchmark in the UK against which others are measured. If the total including shipping works out around the same as you'd pay for a used box in the USA, then it's definitely what I'd do in the same circumstance.
