Question Marked Head Bolt - factory?

I have a quick question, do the head bolts come marked from factory? Meaning that when they torque the head bolts at factory do they mark them with paint to determine the 90 degree turns?

My 2K Disco head bolts are marked and I'm trying to determine if that is from factory or if the previous owner had a HG job done.

An interesting question, because when I have cleaned enough grime off of things on the underside, I have also found paint markings in lots of places. Built by humans, not robots....

Tough to say for sure, but I have some old pictures from when I first got my D2 (just before I figured out that I needed the HG replaced). The head bolts were a rusty mess, but there was no evidence of paint marking on them. If you live anywhere that rust is an issue, and you're seeing paint markings on the head bolts then I'd assume that the HG has been previously replaced.

I don't remember seeing any marks on the bolts, are they pretty obvious? Mine do have paint marks on them now since I've replaced the headgaskets though, so somebody may have done them.

No paint marks on my 04 head bolt and I was the first to replace the head gaskets. I don't know for sure but I'd be willing to bet the factory torque the head bolts to pound vs. As the rave manual calls out which is yield. I've done the job twice with a degree wheel on my socket and never used marking paint.

Thanks Guys. I guess that is why with 93K on it I have not had any Head Gasket Issues. (knocking on wood).

Those are not factory markings and when are you going to get rid of those old warn out factory plug wires, up-grading to 8mm silicone wires, your truck will sure run better.

I have them in the garage Mike. Going to do that with the rest of the 90K service you recommended. Waiting for the wife to leave the country for 10 Days so there are no interruptions. Replaced ABS shuttle switch and did the brake flush last weekend. Replaced the y-pipe and all 4 O2 sensors already.
