I'm a new owner and spent about 3 months scanning the papers, Ebay and Craigslist. I had $6000 to spend and wanted something with class (not a Chevy) and have always liked the LR line up. I found my 2000 Disco with 102K miles with exterior racks and lighting for $5600. It has it's quirks but after looking at about 40 of these and Toyota LC and 4 Runners from south Texas to west Louisiana I learned these have the same problems all vehicles of this age do (10+ years and 100+K miles). Normal wear and tear. The one thing that stood out with these is the over heating issue. Once it happens its over because of cylinder liners. I've found it looks like an engine swap type of problem??? There may or may not be fluid leakage. The one I bought has a new water pump (100K that's normal). But there are no oil leaks and the motor wasn't "washed to sell" like most people do. The electrical issues seem to be there regardless - but look at most cars of the 90's. All cars were being fitted with untested electrical equipment then. I can tell you the ride and feel of the LR is unmistakable. And man it is good!!
