In the Market for a Disco II
Hi Everyone, i'm sure everyone gets tired of newbies asking the question when searching for a Disco of What do I look for and what is a good price.
I've loved these trucks without even owning one, i'd like to pick one up and with all the warning signs I feel nervous about it. but. if it's at a decent price I could just fix it as needed as it will not be my full time vehicle.
So I ask the question again.. what's a good price to pay for a 03, 04. I see a few pristine ones out there, but they are asking $10,000 - $15,000. with mileage in the 80's and up. I've been looking at an 03 that is in the Vin range for the oilpump/post issue. and he's asking $11,000 with 109,000 miles.. i'd be happy spending anywhere from $4,000 - 10,000.

that's exactly what i'm looking for, I don't mind paying a little more, I just want something I can drive occasionally and in the winter if need be. I understand the doing the service, and that doesn't bother me.
Prices vary around the country. West coast seems to be quite a bit higher than the rest of the country. However there are a lot of Disco's still on the road.
Find out if there is a local independent Land Rover specific (not foreign car) shop in your area.
They may be able to give you some leads, plus if you find one elsewhere you would then have a place to get a pre purchase inspection.

had an 04 on craigs list the other day needing head gaskets for $3200, that a big difference from one coast to the other. for extra 10K you could replace the engine and have it shipped west and still be ahead of the game.
I just use mine around town occasionally but it has been to all over Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. Is it going to be used off-road or just on the streets. I wouldn't pay for a mint rover if you are getting it for off-road.
Hollands garge in CT specializes in Rovers ( I've been researching). i'm looking at a 2002 now for about $4,000, haven't looked at it in person, pics look decent needs a left fender flare. 128k on it.. i'm going to ask for the service records or carfax let's see that happens..
The thing to remember - if any truck you look at has not had the head gaskets replaced, it will need them very soon. Most of these trucks seem to need them just over 100,000 miles. So factor in another ~$2500 unless you plan to do the work yourself. Conversely, it's worth paying more if the truck has had the HG done.
here are a couple that would leave you more than $10k in the bank for repairs
2003 land Rover for sale
2003 land rover discovery
2004 Land Rover Discovery SE, 108k miles, runs great
hell; you could have all three for less than 10k
