My experience in the wonderful automotive world as a mechanic and a salesman is a vehicle only ends up at the auction for one reason; the trading dealer does not want to sell it on their lot. Now it could be as simple as the dealer cannot finance it because of its age, which happens a lot. But in that case they usually have favorite wholesales that they will sell the vehicle too, who in turn will wholesale it to a small mom & pop used car dealership. We only sent car to the auction because we never wanted to see them again. But that is just my personal experience. If he is asking $3700 it probablly went over the block for $2500 which is pretty cheap, I would look for a private party sale where you may get some history along with the vehicle.
