Default Midas Warning

I just had to post my experience here. I dropped off my 2000 Disco II at Midas to get a brake inspection. They came back with an estimate of $3600??!!! They said I needed to replace everything: front rotors, front calipers, front pads, rear pads, and that my master cylinder was leaking and needed to be replaced ASAP. They even said it was hazardous to drive. I thought that quote was totally outrageous. A brake job for my Porsche 911 is less than that. So I took it to an independent Land Rover Mechanic in Santa Monica, CA--Four Oaks--and was told that I needed NOTHING....that my brakes are fine. I had 40 percent life remaining on the pads, no leaks on the master cylinder. I was just blown away by my experience at Midas. When I told them I was going to go somewhere else they even had the nerve to ask me how much I was willingly to pay??!!

I don't know if this was a common experience at all Midas shops but the one I went to is in Santa Monica, CA on 5th Street...be warned do NOT go there.

That is Midas for you and if you want to get them back, file a complaint with the BBB as well as Ca. BAR and send a letter along with the estimate to Midas main office.

So you own a 911 yet took your DII to Midas for a ( free ) brake inspection ? Sounds a little fishy to me

Why is this fishy??? Porsche owners can't go to Midas??!! BTW: I never said it was a free inspection. Those guys gave me the MIdas touch and charged me $25. I don't know why you would think i would make this up I just wanted to warn other people who might visit this facility that they tried to rip me off.

Sorry, but it is very fishy. A shop recommends replacement of of almost every brake part on the vehicle? Then you suggest an alternative shop? You sound like an disgruntled employee. I'll apologize in advance if I am wrong. Did Midas give you a written quote, and can you post it here? That would certainly clear the air.

Thanks,

This is why I prefer to do my own work on my vehicles. At least you know what you getting.. I have heard similar stories about Midas, Jiffy Lube, and other places like that. I am sure there good places and bad places. I recommend that if you do use a mechanic, have them save all the parts they removed. That way you can see first hand if the part was bad. If you are spending more than ~$100 it is also a good idea to check around (like what you did) to make sure. It also pays to do a little research. Just my 2 cents.

What is up with these accusations? So now I'm a disgruntled ex-Midas employee??!! Yeah ok sure that's it...i'm a pissed off ex-Midas employee who is now working for another garage and this is my attempt to get some new business....you cracked me. God I was just posting my experiences to warn others that's all man. If you want to go this Midas be my guest.

What accusations? I never accused you of anything. In fact I apologized in advance if I was wrong. I am again asking for any proof of the $3.6K brake job recommended by your chosen shop.

I've had nothing but bad experiences with Midas. They don't know how to set up brakes and they overcharge.
