minor oil leak

Yes, those bolts have sealing washers because they have oil pressure on them. The pan gasket should be above the oil level and see no oil pressure. You can check the functioning of your pcv system by stretching a balloon or nylon glove over the filler tube with the engine running and see if it sucks it in slightly.

the cross bolts for the mains..is it safe/recommended to remove them to put a new sealing washer on them? I bought a bunch of them for the steering box. They have a nice rubber inner part and copper outer part.
