Default Misfire question

After I changed the plug wires a couple months ago, I let one touch the exhaust gas recirc pipe and burned a spot in the wire. Managed to get another #5 wire on with only the SAI pipe and hood removed. Ordered a new set of Kingsborne wires. Until then.... Still have a minor misfire but no codes.

Question: why, when sitting at idle is the misfire worse while in drive than if I shift to neutral?

And.....I usually run with lights on in the day. At a stop light I turned lights off and shift to neutral and the misfire is not noticeable. Otherwise, a minor sporadic stumble.

Just curious why changing this affects a misfire?

May just be the small additional loads put on engine by alt w/lights and trans in drive. Do AC have a similar effect.
......

Yes, slight effect. It just seemed to me plugs fire at a constant rate/voltage and if something was grounding out it would not change with electrical demand on the plug wires. But, conventional wisdom says they are worse under load so I guess the system attempts to draw more power from the ignition
