Default I am an idiot

Replaced the valve cover gaskets and coils yesterday. Put everything back together and noticed that I could not find the plug for my IAC motor. After much searching I found it. However, it was not the IAC plug but the drivers side plug for the coils. I figured it out because it would not reach the IAC. I unplugged the actual IAC plug from the coil and plugged it into the IAC and after much frustration (upper plenum was already installed and torqued) I pluged the coil plug in. The battery was still disconnected when I discovered my stupidity.
Question about the valve covers had caked on really burnt smelling oil. I cleaned them up with parts cleaner but, I wondering if anyone else has had that? heads looked OK minimal sludge

I'm assuming you are talking about the carbon build up on the inside of the valve covers. This is common especially for engines with extended oil changes.
