Misfire Update on 4.0 V8
ok guys,
have fitted brand new lucas leads today to brand new coils, and brand new plugs. still got misfire under load.
its dark and i have been out under the bonnett - i have got very faint arcing - you have to be in pitch dark, but on a snap pull of the cable up to around 3000rpm you see a very faint blue light coming from the leads ON BOTH SIDES!!!
CAN A BAD EARTH CAUSE THIS?
ALSO IF THE CAR STANDS FOR A FEW HOURS WHEN I CRANK HER THE ALARM BEEPS ONCE. Is it a connected problem?
Any ideas welcome.

It is possible for bad grounding to cause arcing where it shouldn't be, it is call a (short). Just make sure all your components are secured for good ground. My first thought is some sort of conductive material saturating the area. Do you have an oil leak, fuel leak or used some sort of conductive spray on your engine? Any bad wire will send electricity ouside of it's wire coating. All new electric plastic or rubber components should be washed before installation. During the mold process a de-mold silicone spray material is used on all plastic parts. This silicone is conductive material.

I'd try a touch of dielectric grease inside any boots showing signs of arcing. If the grease takes care of it, then you know where the problem is. A good boot won't need grease. But an inferior boot can be convinced to work with some grease - just know that it may wear off and need a reapplication.
