Misfires
Hi
I've got a 01 D2 with 115K. Last week my wife had a misfire on cylinder five while driving. It wasn't continuous so I cleared the code and hadn't had any problems. Then today she had a misfire on 2, 5 and 8. Again cleared codes, went to Pepboys to pick up some see foam. I put a can of Seafoam in the tank and then ran a can through the vacuum line. As I was driving the smoke out of it I got a misfire on 3, 5 and 8, cleared codes. I also got the generic misfire code.
It isn't a continuous thing but obviously has become an issue. I always use 91 octane or better, except for once in a rural area where they only had 89.
Any advice on what to try next if it keeps up?
Thanks.
Joe

This is what I was thinking...
They were replaced at the dealer at 60k, so they are close to being due, plus I don't think the dealer uses the good wires. I will be doing the job myself this time. It just seems odd that they are would all be going bad so close together, does that make sense?
Head gaskets were done about a year ago.

getting misfires after seafoam is normal. getting them before seafoam is not. who replaced the head gaskets? did they use new head bolts? the dealer uses 7mm wires not 8mm wires. so they need to be replaced.
Do a tune up, using 8 mm STI or Magnacor wires, run a can of B&G's 44K thru the tank and do an induction cleaning using SeaFoam and you'll be set.
Also, have you up-graded your upper radiator hose so the bleed screw is now on the black plastic "T", if not do that before it fails as well as replacing or rebuilding the front drive shaft, if it hasn't been done, before it fails and takes out the tranny also.
For that mater, you need to do a complete 60K, might want to look at my service list on the sticky at the top of this Discovery section.

Dealer did the headgaskets.
I am familiar with the 60K service sticky and will be getting prepared to do it, maybe a bit sooner than I was planning. I was looking for the 44k but everyone around here that carried it around here was closed at the time so I went with the Seafoam in the tank and an induction cleaning yesterday. I'll get the plugs and wires ordered and start there.

One day it will just blow that whole plug assembly out and many have lost their engines cause you can't cool it down fast enough, so don't think you can second guess it, replace it ASAP.
