Default Misfires increasingly worse

First of all I have a 2001 Discovery 2... I just turned the clock on 100k miles today.

I've been having some hesitation \ misfire problems when the Disco is cold or when I floor the vehicle. The misfire codes are 302/304/306/308 with accompanying 1302/4/6/8. To me this indicates that something isn't working on one side of the engine. But wait...

I also have the classic symptoms of a bad MAF with codes 171,174, and 734. I've tried cleaning out the MAF with contact cleaner, and I've just ordered a new one.

My question is, are the two most likely separate issues, or can a bad MAF cause misfires?

Yes, you MAF is crap, by the way, NEVER NEVER try to clean a Bosch MAF, it will kill it. Here is a telephone number for New Bosch MAF's for under $130, 650-365-4145 and ask for Tony.

My code list doesn't give me any info on the 1302 faults, what did you find for them. Without knowing I would think you have lost a coil.

I'm using the list of codes from: http://www.northwestoverlandsociety....finitions.aspx

The p130X codes from that list appear to be the same as they are with a p030X code:
P1300 Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected Catalyst damaging level of misfire on more than one cylinder
P1301 No description Catalyst damaging level of misfire detected on cylinder No.1
P1302 No description Catalyst damaging level of misfire detected on cylinder No.2
P1303 No description Catalyst damaging level of misfire detected on cylinder No.3
P1304 No description Catalyst damaging level of misfire detected on cylinder No.4
P1305 No description Catalyst damaging level of misfire detected on cylinder No.5
P1306 No description Catalyst damaging level of misfire detected on cylinder No.6
P1307 No description Catalyst damaging level of misfire detected on cylinder No.7
P1308 No description Catalyst damaging level of misfire detected on cylinder No.8

Still, from a distance it looks like a MAF and coils.

Jawbox,
are those codes only for a 2001 DII? I got a '96 DI where can I find some codes definitions (google has limited capability)

Thanks [&:]

All OBD2 codes work for any vehicle made from 96 on.

I just wanted to say thanks for all the Technical Information out on this board. It was a night and day difference when I installed the new MAF sensor and air filter. I had no idea how much power I'd lost due to the bad sensor. I think my Disco is running better than on the day that I bought it and best of all, no new codes.
