Trust me, there have been and always we be dirty female connections. Unfortunately, and after too much ethanol, I've had my share. I would recommend you test your male connector; could have picked something up and can never be too careful. Or, to be on the safe side, always -ALWAYS- shrink wrap your male connector.
Boots on plugs are up against coil, so yes they are on, maybe the order is wrong.

Mike not sure if you remember but i had this promlem before i changed out parts, nothing has helped. You advised the STI wires which i like, also was burning low octane gas and changed to high octane. I have had the ECM tested back in the States, I'm in Mexico. ECM checked out fine. Which male connector are you guys talking about.

I had mentioned about 6 weeks ago that the front O2 sensor on bank 2 was covered in oil i checked the signal wire with meter and read 13 volts going back to ECM. Not .5 volts. I cleaned the connector which fixed problem, but car still ran rough, i thought maybe i have fryed the ECM, thats why i had it tested at a lab. Checked out fine . They even checked the injector circuits, also checked fine. So i replaced Sensors, Plugs and wires, nothing has helped.
Last cry for help, car runs to bad to drive, will have to tow about 250 miles to Land Rover Shop to have it put on a scaner. For some reason i think it will be be a simple fix, but cant find the problem. I have done everything i was asked, but no luck.
