I had the shift cable out of the handle to lube it on my D2, there is a tiny spring lock washer...difficult to remove and impossible to install that holds the cable end in the socket on the handle......I moved that shift lever ahead and back 50 times and the cable stayed put.....I left out the pia washer.........a week later ......you guessed it, the wife calls.... HELP ! " the lever is in park but the transmission is stuck in reverse !!!

the cable is now held in place with a cotterpin

I use to think that if after a repair I had parts left over... That I had found a better way to do that repair!!!!

But I learned that I was wrong. Every time.
