Mobil 0w40 motor oil
I am currently running 10w40 Valvoline Maxlife with no oil leaks and no burning of oil.
Is it a safe idea to switch to Mobil synthetic 0w40? I think it is worth the extra cost for the heat range and protection it provides. I switched my F150 to Royal Purple with good results and no leaks so I am inclined to try it on the Rover.
The Rover has 134,000 miles on it and runs great!
Cheers,
Pete

You are going to light on oil unless you are talking about running this weight in sub zero weather. Here is Colorado, I run Mobil one in a 5W/30 to handle the cold weather starts.
0w40 is going to flow better at low temperatures while protecting like a 40 weight at normal to high temps. A 0w20 oil would be too light. The 0w40 Mobil would be similar to the 10w40 I am currently running with the exception of better cold temperature flow characteristics. This is my impression at least.

I'm here in the Springs and don't expect lower than single digit temperatures. I like the appeal of the temperature range protection it offers as a year round solution. From what I've read the 0w40 Mobil 1 is their European formula which contains more ZDDP. Most motor oils now have 200-400ppm of ZDDP because of regulations while other motorists abroad get 800-1000ppm from their oil.
