Mobil 1 301 oil filter
My Top Filter Choices = Mobil1, Motorcraft, or WIX. Stay the heck away from FRAM, STP, AC Delco (has plastic guts), or any filter with a generic name brand. I have bought several used LR's only to find an oil filter smaller than what my riding mower takes!!!! Due to quick lube places just slapping something on and sending it.... Royal Purple Oil Filters were also nice, but I don't have a Pep Boys near me anymore so Mobil1, Motorcraft, or WIX for me.

and I bought 4. Because who knows in a couple years they will be gone here like the Mobil lol
The 51515 is the filter I've used for years. Not likely to go out of stock because it is the spec filter for some older v8 Fords (I think I'm remembering correctly there), but like you I always keep a few on the shelf anyway. I keep an oil change or two on the shelf for all my vehicles that get driven regularly.
If you get the OEM LR Filter remember it will be the PH16 (smaller size) vs the PH8A (larger size) for a D2 The RRC used the large filter and then LR went with the smaller filter on D1/D2/P38's

Any speculation as to why they did that?
