sorry guys, been out driving my rover!
I was able to fix the starting issue by removing all the plugs and wires, turning over the motor, disconnecting the battery, letting it sit overnight, cleaning the pligs (even though they were new), and putting it all back again. It started on the first turn.
Since then I've replaced the valley pan gasket, with help on another thread. I did 'finish' that one out with an update on getting the truck running (it took some revving of the engine by my son to get the air bubble out of the motor).
