The one at this link is Icelandic Blue: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...r-discovery-6/.

My new one is definitely Monte Carlo Blue. Both blues are great though. Both are in my top 5 Disco colors along with Maya Gold, Alveston Red, and Kniversand.

Gosh, both colors are striking. Never have seen that Icelandic Blue before this thread. So cool to see something other than the standard ones.

She looks pretty great all cleaned up. Going to need a little bit of touch-up paint and correction in some areas, but overall okay.

Two bags of trash came out of the interior. Conveniently the prior owner left me a bottle of coolant (well, a coolant bottle that was filled with water), ATF, and oil conditioner. Probably gives me a few hints on the fate of the mechanicals in this truck. Worryingly, the owner also left me a spare fuse box. Hope I don’t need that.

I let the ozone machine sit in it and that got rid of any remaining smells. The interior is not great, probably going to look at finding a replacement interior at some point. Someone added the two jump seats to the back. But the seats added were the 1999-2002 Bahama Beige, where the rest of the seats are the 2003-2004 Alpaca Beige. I don’t really like the jump seats (take up too much room), so I’ll probably just get rid of them.

Default Amazing find!

hello all! I am new to the board but as I was searching for a MC blue LR online I came across this thread.

I owned a MC blue disco in 2005 and it was my favorite car. It was a 2003 and had low miles and I drove it all through college and beyond. I sold it in 2011 and I’ve always wanted to have another one. Unfortunately I’ve never been able to find one.

so here I am… is there any advice for finding one? I’m not a mechanic but it also wouldn’t be my primary car. Just looking for a bit of nostalgia so it doesn’t go too long and I’ll never be able to find one again.

thanks for any help!

Very cool story. Discos are getting rarer in general. Monte Carlo blue was a rare color to begin with. Finding one now might be a bit of a needle in the haystack.

If you are looking for a nice, well-serviced example, then your best best to find a Monte Carlo Blue one is probably Bring A Trailer or Cars & Bids. I have seen several Monte Carlo Blue ones go one there. Monte Carlo Blue ones tend to command a bit of a premium. I would expect to pay $18-25k there.

If you are open to a fixer-upper, then Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. Ebay may be another option as well. If you see one in Monte Carlo Blue, then you will have to move quickly given the rarity. I had been on and off looking for a Monte Carlo Blue or Maya Gold Disco for more than 2 years when this one popped up. Like any Discovery though, a cheap one will be expensive. After going through this one a bit, I have realized that it will need to be completely overhauled mechanically. I’ll do most of the work myself, but at a shop this would cost thousands.

I have tried to buy 3 blue ones. 2 Monte Carlo & 1 Icelandic Blue. All 3 deals went south. One was at a dealer with 236k and they wanted 12k and it was far from perfect. I figured they'd come down but nope. Then several months later that same D2 popped up on CL needing an engine lol. They still wanted 5k.... The other two were new at the dealer and they wouldn't work with me so I bailed. Ended up with a silver SE7 D2 which was a great truck. I wanted an 02 LE but it sold before I could claim it lol.

When I was searching for my D2, a MC blue 2003 came up a couple times but the seller never responded to my messages. Was a really nice looking SE7 with around 160k miles I think. Maybe they wanted to sell but could bring themselves to let it go. Either way, it was a great color that I don't see much. Very happy with my green d2 though so no regrets.

This sounds very similar to my 03 D2 I bought for $500 a few years back in Greer SC. Poor truck was headed to the junkyard when I came across it. After a weird situation with getting the title from the previous owner, having to find the keys for it, and then having it stored at a cousin's house until I could have it shipped to my house, I got it running right after some major engine work and it's honestly been dead reliable the past 3 years. By an odd turn of events I've been dailying it the past two years with over 260k miles on it. Did you ever get this truck sorted?

Great story - sounds quite similar actually!

So I got the Monte Carlo blue Disco shipped down to Florida. Then I got a new job and moved to Virginia. The truck is still in Florida. It needs to substantial work to get roadworthy again. The engine is knocking bad. The transmission has some electrical problem that keeps putting it in limp mode. The power steering box needs to be rebuilt. It basically needs a complete mechanical refresh. It has a little rust. Monte Carlo blue paint is still really nice though.

I am currently planning an L83 swap for it with a 6 speed. I don’t have as much time as I used to, so the engine will probably be installed by a shop in Florida (I'll let them do all the heavy lifting) and then I'll have it shipped to Virginia where I can do electrical and plumbing. After it’s running, I’ll get the interior / exterior all spruced up.

I am holding on pulling the trigger on an L83 for a little while to see what gas prices do. If they go down like they were, it might get an L86 with a 10 speed. If they go up higher, I might consider a BMW diesel. I’d like to be able to use this one as a daily driver. My other LS Disco is a little much to drive all the time.
