More EBay MADNESS!!!!
My Infiniti dealer gave me a new 2017 QX60 yesterday as a loaner. That car is horrendous compared to my Disco. Even felt slower and doesn’t even have the ‘retro’ good looks. The seats were like sitting on a stone park bench. The market may be coming to the realization these are great trucks.
I've been watching the rise on eBay as well. A lot of the trucks on Craigslist around here in good shape and/or low mileage are listed at $7,500+ and they have been selling. I hope the prices keep going up, just makes my truck value go up too.
I agree. I think people like the nostalgia of the big boxy, go-anywhere SUV instead of the crossover junk that all the manufacturers are producing now. The Discovery certainly stands out in a parking lot nowadays.

I thought the new Defender might be better but after Gerry McGovern mentioned the design would be 'polarizing' and the mules showed IFS, I lost a lot of hope.
I guess dyi owners are tired of losing a fortune if they sell. Most of us end up with more in these than planned, like most vehicles.
Regardless that there are many nice D2s out there with cooked engines, I've always been suprised that you can buy a solid truck in need of engine repair for a few hundred bucks. Maybe they are the next hot niche vehicle, and prices really are going to go up.
As an owner of a clean 04 money pit, I'm ok with that, lol!

$21K is pushing it a bit.
FYI, I paid more than $8K for my Landy. It was less than the owner asked and I can tell you why I agreed to the price.
Discos are becoming classic SUVs. Cars produced today just do not have that flare and they cost too much. When I was looking for a spare car that I could take for overland trips, no hardcore wheeling, I test drove quite a few new and used models. Disco was it. And it is freaking hard to find those models that have not been abused. A typical asking price on Craigslist in my area is around $6K for a well-cared for car. Add reliability mods such as head gaskets, updated cooling system, drive shafts. Throw in suspension, tires, bumpers and updates to the interior and you’re looking at $4-5K in parts + labor if you don’t wrench yourself.
In my case the choice was between a new car and a mint Disco. As I grew up watching Camel Trophy that was a no-brainer ;-)
