Hey Best, you survived hurricanes Harvey, Imelda and Laura. How are you doing this week with all the heavy rain we see reported in the Houston area?

 

I live about 2 hours east of Houston and the rivers and bayous went over the banks Friday but it looks like they're all receding now. I drove through about 3-4inches Thursday.

 

I'm doing good so far thanks. Last week was wild on Thursday. I took my oldest to school in the XD and she walked into school just fine. On my way back to get my work van the sky was green. I got home, parked the XD, and got ready for work. By the time I got to my van I was completely soaked, had to drive thru 1.5ft of water thru town, and then drive on I-10 east for 56 miles. It was awful several spots of I-10 had 8inches of water just sitting on it (thanks construction that NEVER gets done). Got to my area then just basically sat in my van all day. Got home they cancelled school like 5min after I dropped my oldest off. So that made everyone have to go out into the flooding roads to go get their kids (inlaws got mine). Then on the way home at my exit I saw like 6 vehicles hydrolocked and tow trucks just waiting like buzzards. The street into my neighborhood is under water on/off from all this. Friday they cancelled school, and then over the weekend we got even more rain. Work is going to be interesting this week to say the least.

The Sabine river keeps rising and so is the Neches, and Trinity river, but I'm far enough away from those that I'll be fine. It's been like this here since SCARR at the beginning of April. A back way I go to Deridder, LA is basically an ocean. I took that route on Tuesday and I drove thru nearly 1ft of water in several spots.

Speaking of SCARR when I drove up for that a day early Kirbyville was evacuated due to flooding and it took me an additional 3hr to get to Longview, TX. I drove thru 1ft of water in about 8 different places and a few of those were 1/4 long crossing and it was flowing. I just waiting for other folks and went single file and had no issues in the XD. But the gang of bikers heading south = they weren't going thru that!! On the way back I had to route completely around all the flooding. The ground just can't soak it up fast right now.

 

Best4x4, I am hoping the rain does not bring flooding to your area. I recollect seeing some pics from one of your old posts where the flooding came up to your home. Hope it does not happen again. Take care.

 

Back in 2016 t had rained like this north of the Beaumont area up around Jasper and we got flooded a week later from the rivers. That could be the case now; don't know if Best4x4 remembers that.

 

Oh I remember whenever it rains north of me the lakes (Rayburn & Toledo Bend) fill up to capacity & they have to fully open the flood gates. It's back to normal around my house, but Sabine River is still high along with the Neches.

 

Here you go again, Best. How have you fared with Beryl?

 

I did okay never lost power & the winds didn't take down anything serious near my house or shop. Rain was about 4-5inches and no serious flooding. My good friends NW of Houston weren't so lucky they're without power, and they lost several tree's around their home. Thanks for checking on me!

Those pictures from a few years ago of the water within inches of your front door are seared in my mind.

I think it's time for you to move to North Carolina.
