the 03s in the range dont have bad pumps. the front of the block is machined wrong and the locating dowels for the pump are just a hair in the wrong place, this means the front cover, which houses the pump is also a hair off, and in a lot of cases this causes the pump to fail. thats why a new pump doesnt fix the problem, a new block does.

 

my 03 s7 disco is out of the vin range. recently the oil pump failed. got er fixed and she rocks.....
