Actually, Mobil 1 is comprised of PAO base stocks

Ok so I saw that you might run different oil depending your climate. Here in Oklahoma we got 100+ degree temps in the summer and get down to around 20 degrees in the winter, what would someone recomend for that?

In the summer something like 10W-40 or 15W-40.

In the winter 5W-40.

No its not, they changed their base stock to a hydrocracked group 3 base a few years ago. People guessed that for a while though, how else can Walmart sell it at $23 for 5 quarts (PAO ain't that cheap)? They have just recently manned up to it now though, base stock is called vissom or something like that. I think delvac 1 is one of the last few mobil 1 oils that is over 60% PAO.

You can us 5w40 all year, it is the same operating temp as any other 40wt oil.

Let's just say I have a very close relationship with ExxonMobil and I can promise you M1 is made up of PAO basestocks. To answer your question, Wal Mart is able to sell 5 litre jugs for $x amount of dollars because they buy M1 by the train load in MASS quantities. Hundreds of thousands of gallons at at time. Plus, the packaging costs are much lower due to not having 6 separate quart bottles per unit. ExxonMobil sued Castrol over the ssame thing you claim Mobil 1 is. A hydrocracked Group 3 basestocks is not defined as a synthetic to ExxonMobil btw.

I'm sure there is some PAO in some of the formulations but to say modern mobil 1 is a PAO basestock is false AFAIK. This is not coming from me I would love to see proof that M1 is still predominantly PAO based because I use M1. But ask any tribologist in the industry and their opinion is that most of the M1 lineup as been switched over to the slack wax hydrocracked visom basestock. There is a mobil powerpoint that was leaked (that is around) admitting as much plus MSDS sheets from around the globe don't list PAOs any longer. Mobil came out with a press release admitting to visom because of the leaked powerpoint. If you read jobbersworld.com you would have seen this.

If you can get any proof of your PAO claim that would be awesome. You would be a hero to all the M1 fanboys over at bob is the oil guy (almost no one over there believes M1 is a PAO base any longer).

Here is a thread with a copy of the mobil press release admitting that they have gone from PAO to Visom + PAO:
