Moving to Cold Weather w Disco2. Please help w tips to keep Disco alive
Hi Everyone,
I've had my disco for about 4 years now and I love it. I'll soon be moving from Miami, Florida to Indiana.
Is there anything you suggest I do to the disco so it won't die on me in the cold weather? Is there a chance the cold weather will damage things? Is there a risk to the head gasket from the extreme cold?
Thanks for any help.

That's a great idea. I only plan on being there for about 4 months? Think I can get away with not doing it and getting a good undercarriage wash after the winter?
Unless you are going up to Gary or Chicagoland, the cold is unlikely to matter. That being said, make sure your battery is good. I would probably do something to your frame, even as a stop gap. Maybe some of the aerosol rust converts or similar. 4 months could be enough to start the corrosion.
It hit -15 a few times while I lived there previously. That's pretty extreme for a Floridian like me!
I'll be in South Bend. The weather is about the same as Gary.

Replace your battery if it's questionable, flush your power steering fluid, and switch over to rotella t6 0w40 if you haven't already. If you're only going to be here for 4 months I wouldn't undercoat it just for your short stay, but be sure to wash all the salt off when you're back down south. If you have been doing a decent job maintaining your car you will have 0 issues in the Midwest.
Make sure your coolant (and washer fluid!) is mixed properly for sub zero weather. In Florida you can get away with running a weak mix but not so up there!

The battery is relatively new but I might just buy a spare and keep it in the garage.
