Checked my exhaust again today as the cab was heating up after 45-60 minute drive. CAT temps were ~350F. Muffler was between 300-400F. Should have the design engineering heat shield tomorrow so we'll see how that goes.
I highly recommend automatic fire extinguishers for your engine compartment. They are less than twenty ($20).
This unit is compressed fire retardant wrapped in plastic. Fire melts the plastic, which then explodes fire retardant all over your engine bay like popping a balloon filled with candy pinata style. They are 1 use only, of course.
I use those fire ball extinguishers in my boat, Porsche 928, and in the attic of my house.
I use a Fire Fight SS-20 automatic fire extinguisher in my Disco (just because I had it lying around when I was doing the motor). I do plan on adding a 2nd fire ball extinguisher into my Disco engine bay, but have not yet done so.
Also, that eBay link is just a visual. That guy has lousy feedback. Other sellers on eBay are similarly priced.

Putting this stuff on tonight. While inspecting the proper coverage, I found the spot that was missing the heat sheild. Also found a place above the transmission that didn’t have any shielding. Is this correct? The missing piece What about this spot over the tranny?
