That price sounds to high to me.
Somebody else will have to chime in but I dont think it should take 4.5 hours to replace the coil pack.
It doesnt take that long to do a tune up on a DII, and this is the same thing only half the job.
You still need to remove the intake plenum but you only need to replade one part, unbolt it, unplug it, plug kin the new on, bolt in the new one, done.

$249 for part. then they are charging $166.89 an hour for labor. My buddy charges $100 an hour for this type of work.

First, stop everything and get some specific answers answers.
What exactly were the 4 oil pressure numbers Spike told you to get and how, specifically, did they determine the coil was the problem, not the plug or wire, and what's with the $1000 estimate???
The single coil is $100 and can be replaced in 2 hours.
Get back to us after you talk with them.

Dan,
Who's truck are we talking about your's or the mechanics?? Who is paying for this work?
Call him and get all 4 sets of numbers, you'll find he didn't run them the way he should have.
Now if you don't care if your truck gets fixed and that you are getting screwed on this then don't do anything, it was just an idea.

ok so update,

misfire on 7 was the coil pack (apparently 7 had shorted against the head?) Bill for that came to $1500. $420 for 2 coil packs, $199 for plugs and $360 for wires plus 4.5 hours labour at $95. I questioned the garage and asked them to check their parts prices and I am amazed at the, *(they said they were OEM parts which are more expensive) I feel robbed but would love you to chime in

The oil light is still on however even after an oil change. Mechanic said hot idle was 3100 and cold was 3200. He reccomends I am fine to drive it as light goes off with any revs above idle. ie +100 rpm and it goes off. He said it is likely the switch and will change that next week

I am concerned as I should be going on a 350 mile trip tomorrow and do not feel comfortable doiung so

Opinions?
