The factory stat is start to open at 180, so that is the lowest it will ever be after warmed up. The factory stat is fully open at 204 F. When it gets above 212, electric fan kicks on (like in your example). Sounds like everything is within what would be normal. You may be able to lower the running temps a little with flushed (eliminate Dexcool) or new radiator, clean out all the leaves and mud from fins, etc. Fan clutch should be checks along with under hood fluids every week. Cold, shoulod spin and release less than abou 1/4 turn. Warmed up, engine off, spin and release, no more than 1/2 to 1 turn, should not freewheel. Running down the road temps not impacted by fan blades so much.

Now, when it is 100F outside, your numbers could slide up to a point where you are uncomfortable with them. Many people don't look at cooling system until problems have existed long enoght to cause other damage.

If you go to an alternate thermostat, or an inline thermostat, you may be able to drop 10 degrees or so per posts from others.

Hi,
You can run around town and up a steep hill with your code scanner plugged into the OBD II port.
Some code scanners have a live monitor mode.
Looks like you have been doing that.

I once had a BMW whereas it only overheated on hot hot days.
Otherwise fine.

I finally found the radiator was PLUGGED in the FINS with dust, dirt, hay from horse farms.

Back hosed that out.
Problem was gone.

I have a 100% brand new cooling system and my temps are higher than that. Same temps since I got it. 210 on back roads, 221 sitting, 205 highway and a bit less on downhills. Doesn't matter on outside temp. I have done everything and it is still the same, and been going strong for 20k with those temps. Never overheated once, even in dead stopped traffic on a 100 degree day in NYC. I would love your temps though!

You can lower it another 6 degrees or so with a Range Rover/early Disco 2 thermostat.

Installed 180f thermostat in place of 192f thermostat - Land Rover Forums : Land Rover and Range Rover Forum

I agree with Spike - you're temps are fine. You have to be careful running the Scan Guage as it will completely drive you nuts. I thought my '04 was running hot - but come to find out everything was normal (~195-204 while running, ~211 - 215 at long GA light).

Watching the Scan Guage can be more distracting than texting while driving!

temps are right on the nose with me, and i have new wp, hoses, thermo n amsoil etc. in NJ @sea level

winter (20-35F most days) was about 195ish running, 200 idle creaping to 205.

spring/fall/summer (65-80F most days) is about 200 on the nose running, 210 idle creaping to 215. 216's the highest ive seen, at that point the fans always get her back to 200 before it goes back up again.
