Default My gear shift is lagging some times - Transmission?

Disco 2 has 83k mileage. The gear sometimes lagging. Last transmission, gear oil change around 55k.

Should I change all the fluid? just changed oil with Rotella 6.

I just ordered and received the transmission filter.

Questions.

1. what type of Transmission Oil? and how much do I need?
2. Gear Box - what type and how much ?
3. Differential oil - what type and how much ?

Anything else?

Thanks

All the type and capacity of fluids is in the sticky "major service" at the top.

Couple of other tips...

I noticed a little stutter shifting at times going into top gear and added a product called "Lubeguard" at my last fluid and filter change (the exact name is in my signature.) It seems to have actually worked! I'm hesitant to recommend this sort of stuff, but if you look for it on Amazon you'll see it gets a decent amount of praise compared to most mechanic-in-a-bottle additives.

Also, if you're feeling frisky, you might can source a Discovery I transmission pan from one of the fine folks here who specialize in salvaging. Those actually have a dipstick so that you can fill it from the top rather than dealing with the awkward process of using a transfer pump. At my next trans filter change I WILL be doing this upgrade.

Best of luck!

Thank you Abran. just few questions of clarification ?

6 Qts. Of Vavoline’s high mileage Dextron 3 ATF (Is this with or without filter change?)

7 Qts. of 80/90W synthetic gear oil, 85W/140 for HD use (does this includes gearbox and differentials? )

1 Bottle of Lucas Transmission additive (Is this a necessary? is this in addition to the 6 Qts? )

Thanks

With filter change.

That's enough for Diffs and t case.

Lucas is optional.

Make sure you can open the fill plugs on trans and t case before draining. I've heard of members draining fluid and not being able to open them leaving themselves stuck.

Have fun!

Yes, I have heard of that. Also I've noticed some leak from the filler bolt on the differential. not sure if I still have the Plastic one. I need to go down and check.

Because of your shifting problems, I would say the Lucas trans additive is mandatory.

I had a buddy with similar issues in his Celica. He changed the fluid and it didn't help, drained some and added Lucas and the car has been symptom free for several years now.

Very good question. Its possible sometime My son takes the truck and I have not noticed that.

Now I am curious. If the Tranny on Sport is that a normal behavior? This does not happen all the time so I have not been able to pin point any specific event.

Thanks
