Yeah. I was just concerned about going full torque because:
- pulling-threads horror stories even with studs
- The gaskets had been done before
- I could not put the studs in by hand
Regardless, I dont think one should lose torque all the way to 15ftlbs!

my most recent hg job on my current d2......was it's first and had original bolts and gaskets. i checked torque before removing. the passenger side rear bolt (leak area) was right at 18ftlbs.
You should of just tightened it back up Dusty and headed down the road!
Oh, it did cross my mind...The actual head gasket appeared to be in perfect condition. It was just that the head was falling off.I had the heads checked and they were perfectly flat as well.
Same thing happened to me. Dealer said that the heads were fine and didn't need resurfacing. 2 years later, it happened again. That time, I took it to an indy tech that did it right by having the heads resurfaced by a reknowned machine shop and used composite gaskets.
So I the heads are off of my disco and the leak was coming from the passenger rear. No water in the cylendars or head bolt holes. I took the heads to a machine shop that knows these heads. They milled them down and they look great. They say that the heads are dished out in the center from the factory and that is exactly where they where leaking from. They are nice and flat now. They also said that they where in great shape. I have all my parts coming from Rover North. I'm looking forward to putting all back together and getting it on the road.
This is an old post but wanted to give it a bump. Just replaced my D1 fuel injectors with Bosch 0280155746. Got a set of 8 rebuilt off ebay for $110. They worked great. I was having hot and cold starting issues that I suspected were related to the old ones leaking, etc. These were easy to install b/c they were slimmer. Fit perfectly and no more hard starting issues.
