Default My LR has never gone to a shop so far, but......

My 1997 Discovery has about 150K. So far whatever it has needed I have provided at home. Now I got a problem that seems to be out of my league.
I have a leak on the A/C system. I used the dying gas and it turns out that it is by the shaft of the compressor. I've read enough about A/C to know that I need to vacuum the system prior to recharging it again after replacing the compressor and the condenser. Does this mean that I have to go to an A/C shop or is it there another way to do this myself? By the way, I don't believe any of those over the counter sealers will help in my case since it is a moving part.

Yes to have the system vacuumed you will need to have a shop do that.
But once empty you can then drive it home and replace the A/C compressor.
If that is all that is leaking then just replace that and do not worry about the condensor.
Once you have replaced the pump take it back to the shop that vacuumed it and have them put in new oil and R-134a.
