Default My own Episode of RoadKill

Well I bought yet another D2. This time an 04 D2 with a cracked exhaust manifold or leaking head gasket for 850.00.

It has some RTE Rocker Guards with steps, OME HD suspension, new BFG AT's and lots of other good parts.

I showed up with the $$$, my trusty ScanGauge II, and a good battery. It's been sitting for nearly a year, so I did a quick walk around, checked the fluids, and turned the key.

It fired right up and ran great minus the possible leaking head gasket on a cylinder or a cracked exhaust manifold making a loud hiss.

I let it warm up and I moved it out of it's tomb for a year. All was good so I paid the guy, got the title, and told em I'd be back later for my other vehicle!!!!

First stop was to get some fresh fuel in the D2. After that I took some back roads for the first part of my 1.5hr journey with no issues to report.

No 3 amigos, just a misfire fault on cylinder 6 (where the possible leak is). Windshield leaks air like a SOB (he had it replaced a while back), but mechanically it was doing fine.

Of coarse it was loud, but all the electronics work including the darn Cruise Control which I am still fighting to get to work on my 02 Kalahari!

Made it home with no issues, and I just went back to pickup my other vehicle after I got home.

It wasn't an epic 800 mile run but it ran 188-193F the entire time and besides a low charging alternator I had no issues and could have driven much farther.

I bet the previous owner was like you've got to be kidding me after sitting an entire year!

Yeah I went with my gut on it after looking it over from head to toe and monitoring the temps/voltages.

The previous owner had put a lot of $$$ into it from Head Gaskets, new hoses, 180F OEM thermostat, and a new battery (before it went flat from sitting).

He just gave up on trying to figure out the hissing and PO306 fault.

This is by no means a good looking pretty paint exterior D2 (rattle can OD Paint Job), and the interior is pretty trashed with painted door panels, and dash. However mechanically it's a gold mine! No 3 Amigo's all the windows, locks, CC, remote, sun roofs work, and the transfer case, transmission, brakes, and engine are in great shape minus the hiss.

It was a fun adventure for sure & I'd do it again if I had to!
